Cochlear is a medical device manufacturer based in Sydney, Australia, that designs and produces cochlear implants, electro-acoustic hybrid implants and bone conduction hearing devices. It was established in 1981 as a subsidiary of Nucleus to commercialize implant technology developed by Dr. Graeme Clark, and became an independent publicly listed company in 1995. As of 2022 Cochlear holds roughly half of the global cochlear implant market, and by 2015 more than 250,000 people had received its implants.
