Cleary Gottlieb Steen and Hamilton is an American multinational law firm headquartered at One Liberty Plaza in New York City, across from the World Trade Center site. It was founded in 1946 as Cleary, Gottlieb, Friendly and Cox when six partners left the firm Root, Clark, Buckner and Howland. The firm operates 17 offices worldwide with more than 1,000 lawyers, generating about 1.7 billion dollars in revenue as of 2024, and is known for major corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, sovereign debt restructuring and complex litigation, including government debt restructurings and mega mergers valued at more than 100 billion dollars.
