City Park Brewery

City Park Brewery was a Philadelphia brewing company founded by Louis J. Bergdoll, who began brewing in 1849 at a small facility on Vine Street and formally incorporated the business as City Park Brewery in 1881. Its main works, built in 1856 near Fairmount Park and the Schuylkill River in North Philadelphia, grew into a large brewing complex on 28th and 29th Streets. The company operated until 1920, when Prohibition forced it to close, and it resumed brewing for a single year after Prohibition repeal, in 1934. Several of its buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and have since been converted into residential condominiums.
