The Cincinnati Northern Railroad was formed in 1894 and ran about 186 miles from Franklin, Ohio, near Cincinnati, north to Jackson, Michigan. The Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway acquired it in 1901, and it later passed to the New York Central Railroad, which formally merged it into the Big Four effective June 30, 1938. Most of the original line has since been abandoned, though short segments still operate under various short line railroads.
