The Cincinnati and Charleston Railroad was incorporated by the South Carolina General Assembly to build a railroad connecting Charleston, South Carolina, with Cincinnati, Ohio. The company changed its name the following year to the Louisville, Cincinnati and Charleston Railroad and subsequently became the South Carolina Railroad. Wikipedia's own account of the company is sparse, resting on a single citation to an 1873 United States Supreme Court decision, and gives no further detail on when it was chartered, its route, or its construction history.
