China National Petroleum Corporation, known as CNPC, is a Chinese state owned oil and gas company founded in 1988 and headquartered in Beijing. It is one of the largest integrated energy groups in the world, engaged in the exploration, production and refining of crude oil and natural gas, petrochemical manufacturing, and pipeline transport, and it operated more than twenty two thousand service stations worldwide as of 2019. Its publicly listed subsidiary, PetroChina, created in 1999, carries out most of the group's exploration, production, refining and marketing work. In 2024 the corporation reported revenue above three trillion yuan and employed close to one million people, and it ranked fourth on the Fortune Global 500 list of the world's largest corporations by revenue in 2022.
