Chimay Brewery is a Trappist brewery founded September 19, 1862 at Scourmont Abbey near Chimay, Belgium, one of thirteen breweries worldwide authorized to produce Trappist beer and the first to use the Trappist Ale designation on its labels. The monastery also produces cheese, and by 2007 the brewery's annual sales exceeded 50 million dollars; it now produces about 123,000 hectoliters a year, half of it exported, with profits supporting the monastery and regional charities.
