Chicago Union Station Company

The Chicago Union Station Company, reporting mark CUST, was a wholly owned subsidiary of Amtrak that owned Chicago's Union Station and its approach tracks. It was incorporated on July 3, 1913, as the Union Station Company and took the Chicago Union Station Company name on May 7, 1915, well before the station itself opened on May 16, 1925. It was originally owned in equal shares by four railroads, the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway and the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad, both subsidiaries of the Pennsylvania Railroad, along with the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad and the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. Amtrak had acquired full ownership by 1984, and the company was dissolved in May 2017, with Amtrak taking direct ownership of its assets. Union Station itself became the largest intercity rail station in the Midwest, handling both passenger and freight operations over the lines that converged there.
