The Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern Railroad is a short line freight railroad formed in 2004 to operate over the former Pennsylvania Railroad Fort Wayne Line across Indiana, Ohio and Illinois. Headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, it runs from Tolleston, Indiana to Crestline, Ohio on track leased from CSX Transportation, and as of 2023 owned about 323 miles of route able to handle 286,000-pound freight cars. It interchanges with BNSF, CSX, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific and Canadian National, and has been owned by short line operator Genesee and Wyoming since that company acquired its then parent, RailAmerica, for 1.39 billion dollars in 2012.
