Cheshire Midland Railway

The Cheshire Midland Railway was an English railway company authorised by Parliament on 14 June 1860 to build a 12-mile 65-chain line from Altrincham through Knutsford to Northwich in Cheshire. It opened in stages, Knutsford to Mobberley for passengers on 12 May 1862 and Northwich to Knutsford for passengers on 1 January 1863, with goods traffic following on both sections by 1 May 1863, and it operated independently only from 1860 to 1867. It was succeeded by the Cheshire Lines Committee, a joint venture created through Parliamentary acts between 1863 and 1867 among the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway, the Great Northern Railway and the Midland Railway; the route it built forms part of what is now known as the Mid-Cheshire Line.
