The Chehalis Western Railroad was a pair of short line railroads in Washington state owned and operated by the forest products company Weyerhaeuser between 1936 and 1993, hauling lumber and forest products. The first incarnation, running 10 miles from Chehalis to Ruth, operated as a common carrier Class III railroad; a second incarnation, roughly 23 miles running from Tacoma to Chehalis and from Frederickson to Morton, operated as a private railroad using trackage rights over the Milwaukee Road and Northern Pacific. Weyerhaeuser shut the second incarnation down in July 1992 and sold the whole railroad to the city of Tacoma in 1995 for 3.1 million dollars; parts of its former route now carry excursion trains and a bike trail.
