Casino Guichard-Perrachon S.A., known as the Casino Group, is a French mass-market retail group headquartered in Saint-Etienne, founded on 2 August 1898 by Geoffroy Guichard under the original name Guichard-Perrachon & Co. The group generated about 37.8 billion euros in revenue in 2017, but has faced severe financial difficulty since: its market capitalization had fallen to roughly 2.35 billion euros by November 2021, and between June 2023 and October 2024 it closed or sold off every Casino-branded supermarket and Geant hypermarket in France to competitors amid a debt-driven crisis. As of April 2024 it employed about 28,200 people, a fraction of its earlier workforce, and from 2024 a consortium led by Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky has controlled 53.7 percent of its share capital.
