The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce is a Canadian multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered at CIBC Square in Toronto's Financial District. It was established on June 1, 1961, through the merger of two predecessor banks, the Canadian Bank of Commerce, founded in 1867, and the Imperial Bank of Canada, founded in 1873, a combination that was the largest merger between chartered banks in Canadian history. CIBC is one of Canada's Big Five banks, serving approximately 15 million clients globally through four main business divisions, Canadian Personal and Business Banking, Canadian Commercial Banking and Wealth Management, United States Commercial Banking and Wealth Management, and Capital Markets. The bank maintains international operations across the United States, the Caribbean, Asia, and the United Kingdom.
