Camrail is a Cameroonian railway operator headquartered in Douala, established in 1999 when it was granted a 20 year concession to operate the Cameroon National Railway. A subsidiary of the French investment conglomerate Bollore and operated by fellow Bollore subsidiary Comazar since its founding, Camrail runs passenger and freight service between Cameroons largest cities and several smaller ones, including Douala, Yaounde, Kumba, and Ngaoundere, over a metre gauge network spanning 1,000 kilometers. The Cameroonian government retains ownership of the track infrastructure while Camrail owns the rolling stock, and a 2011 World Bank assessment ranked the company relatively high among African countries for productivity, citing it as a regional leader in concessioning rail service to a non-state operator.
