Bungie, Inc. is an American video game company based in Bellevue, Washington, established in May 1991 by Alex Seropian and later joined by programmer Jason Jones. Originally based in Chicago and focused on Macintosh games, the studio built the Marathon and Myth franchises before Microsoft acquired it in 2000 and repurposed its project Halo: Combat Evolved as a launch title for the Xbox console, a game that became the console's defining hit. Bungie split from Microsoft in 2007 to become independent, later developing the Destiny franchise under a publishing deal with Activision before taking over its own publishing in 2019. Sony Interactive Entertainment completed its acquisition of Bungie in July 2022, in a deal valued at 3.6 billion dollars.
