Brookfield Corporation is a Canadian multinational alternative investment management firm established on August 1, 1997, through the merger of Edper and Brascan Ltd. It is headquartered at Brookfield Place in Toronto, Ontario, and manages more than 1 trillion US dollars of assets, investing in real estate, renewable power, infrastructure, credit, and private equity globally. The company traces its origins to 1899, when the Sao Paulo Tramway, Light and Power Company was founded to develop utility infrastructure in Brazil, and it became Brascan Limited in 1969 and Brookfield Asset Management in 2005 before restructuring in December 2022 under the Brookfield Corporation name and spinning off its asset management division as a separate publicly traded company, Brookfield Asset Management Ltd.
