Broadcom Inc. is an American semiconductor and infrastructure software company headquartered in Palo Alto, California. Its current form dates to 2016, when Avago Technologies, a Singapore-based chipmaker itself descended from Hewlett-Packard and Agilent semiconductor businesses, acquired the older Broadcom Corporation and adopted its name. Broadcom makes chips for networking, broadband and wireless communications, and expanded into enterprise software through acquisitions including CA Technologies, Symantec's enterprise division and, in 2023, VMware.
