British Airways is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom, headquartered near London Heathrow Airport and formed in 1974 through the merger of the state-owned carriers British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) and British European Airways (BEA). It was privatized in 1987 and became a founding member of the Oneworld alliance in 1999, and it has been a wholly owned subsidiary of International Airlines Group since that holding company's 2011 formation alongside Iberia. British Airways operates its primary hub at Heathrow, one of the world's busiest international airports, and its history includes operating Concorde supersonic passenger services between London and New York until 2003.
