BOC Hong Kong (Holdings) Limited is the Hong Kong-listed intermediate holding company of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, a subsidiary of Bank of China and the second-largest commercial banking group in Hong Kong by assets and customer deposits. Bank of China (Hong Kong) was established on 1 October 2001 from a merger of twelve subsidiaries and associates, and is one of three banks licensed to issue Hong Kong dollar banknotes and the designated clearing bank in Hong Kong for renminbi transactions. Its headquarters occupies the Bank of China Tower in Central, Hong Kong, a 70-story building completed in 1989, and the parent Bank of China owns approximately 66 percent of the company.
