Blackstone Inc. is an American alternative asset management firm headquartered in New York City, the largest alternative asset manager in the world by assets under management. It was founded in 1985 by Stephen Schwarzman and Peter Peterson, both formerly of Lehman Brothers, initially as a mergers and acquisitions advisory boutique before expanding into private equity, real estate, credit, and hedge fund investing. Blackstone has grown into one of the largest owners of commercial real estate in the world and a major force in corporate buyouts, managing capital on behalf of pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and other institutional investors across a broad range of alternative investment strategies.
