Bitburger Brewery, formally Bitburger Brauerei Th. Simon GmbH, is a German brewery headquartered in Bitburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, founded in 1817 by Johann Peter Wallenborn. After Wallenborn's death in 1839 his daughter's husband Ludwig Bertrand Simon renamed the operation Simonbrau, and Theobald Simon took control in 1876 and developed the brand further. The brewery's pilsner ranks as Germany's third best-selling beer overall and its top-selling draught beer, with annual production reaching 3.84 million hectolitres in 2015, and its products, alongside other beer variants and non-alcoholic options, are exported to countries including Australia and the United States.
