Birra Moretti is an Italian brewing company founded in 1859 by Luigi Moretti in Udine, Italy, known for its mustachioed-gentleman brand mascot that originated in the 1940s. The Moretti family controlled the brewery until 1989, when it sold a 70 percent stake to Labatt Brewing Company; Interbrew acquired it through Labatt's takeover in 1995 and sold it to Heineken the following year, which has owned it since. By the late 1980s it ranked as the third-largest brewery in Italy with about 10 percent of the market, and it now produces across several Italian sites as well as a facility in Manchester, England.
