Biman Bangladesh Airlines, commonly known as Biman, is the flag carrier of Bangladesh, with its main hub at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and secondary hubs in Chittagong and Sylhet. Created in February 1972, it held an internal monopoly on Bangladeshi aviation for 24 years and was wholly owned and managed by the government until 23 July 2007, when it became the country's largest public limited company under the Caretaker Government of Bangladesh. The airline later expanded its fleet and network after signing a deal with Boeing in 2008, and it is certified as safe to fly in Europe by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and has passed the IATA Operational Safety Audit.
