Bergslagernas Jarnvagar was the largest private railway company in Sweden, founded on January 26, 1872 to connect the ore rich Bergslagen mining region of southern Sweden to the port of Gothenburg. Its main line ran 478 kilometers from Gothenburg to Falun, with numerous branch lines reaching mining and industrial communities throughout the region, and it carried both freight and passengers to international markets through Gothenburg's harbor. The company operated as an independent private enterprise for more than 75 years, forming a significant part of Sweden's industrial era infrastructure. It ceased operating as an independent entity in 1948, when it was absorbed into the Swedish State Railways through nationalization.
