The Beira Railroad Corporation was a joint-venture company formed in 2005 to operate the railway lines of central Mozambique running from the Port of Beira, with connections toward Zimbabwe and Malawi, under a concession from the state railway operator Mozambique Ports and Railways, which held 49 percent of the company against 51 percent held by the Indian consortium Ricon. Tasked with renovating infrastructure damaged during Mozambique 1977-2002 civil war while carrying freight and passengers, the company had its concession revoked in 2011 for non-compliance with its contractual obligations, after which operation of the lines reverted to Mozambique Ports and Railways.
