BAWAG P.S.K. is Austria's fourth largest bank, formed on October 1, 2005 through the merger of two long-standing Austrian banks, P.S.K. and BAWAG, the latter founded in 1922 in Vienna by the country's trade unions as a workers bank to widen access to savings and credit. Headquartered in Vienna, the bank offers savings, payment, lending, leasing, investment, building society and insurance products chiefly to Austrian retail, small business and corporate customers, and its holding company, BAWAG Group AG, listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange in October 2017. As a Significant Institution under European Banking Supervision, BAWAG P.S.K. is supervised directly by the European Central Bank, and by 2016 it served more than 2.5 million customers with roughly two thirds of its loans originating in Austria.
