The Bavarian Ludwig Railway, formally the Koniglich privilegierte Ludwigs-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft, or Royal Privileged Ludwig Railway Company, was a chartered German railway company founded on May 14, 1833, and granted its concession in February 1834. It built and operated the first steam hauled railway in Germany, a six kilometre line between Nuremberg and Furth in Bavaria that opened December 7, 1835, raising 132,000 guilders in share capital and running both passenger and freight service until the company operations ended on October 31, 1922.
