Bank of China Limited is a Chinese state-owned commercial bank headquartered in Beijing, founded in 1912 as the successor to the Da-Qing Government Bank, making it one of the oldest continuously operating banks in China. It is one of China's four state-owned "Big Four" commercial banks, alongside the already-live Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited, and it has historically served as China's principal foreign exchange bank, maintaining an extensive international branch network. Bank of China is classified as a globally systemically important bank by international financial regulators and its shares trade on both the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges.
