Banco Macro is Argentina's second-largest domestically owned private bank and the sixth-largest by deposits and lending, tracing its origin to a 1976 brokerage, Financiera Macro, before becoming a commercial bank in 1988. Headquartered in Buenos Aires, it operates roughly 1,772 ATMs and more than 500 service points nationwide through its Grupo Macro organization. In March 2006 it became the first Argentine company to list abroad since 1997, and it now trades on both the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, ticker BMA, and the New York Stock Exchange; major shareholders include the state pension agency ANSES alongside bank chairman Jorge Horacio Brito and other Grupo Macro principals.
