Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A.

Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, S.A., known as BBVA, is a Spanish multinational bank headquartered in Madrid, one of the largest banks in Spain and a major banking presence across Latin America. It was formed in 1999 through the merger of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya, itself the product of an earlier 1988 merger of two Basque banks, with Argentaria, a Spanish state banking group that had been privatized earlier that decade. BBVA built a large retail banking franchise in Mexico, where its BBVA Mexico subsidiary is one of the country's largest banks, alongside substantial operations in South America, Turkey and Spain. The bank is known for having invested early and heavily in digital banking technology relative to many European peers.
