The Ayr and Dalmellington Railway was a railway company in Scotland formed to connect the growing ironworks community of Dalmellington with the town of Ayr in Ayrshire. Its route had originally been planned by the Ayrshire and Galloway Railway as part of a larger scheme linking Ayr with Castle Douglas, but a shortage of funds limited construction to a short section connecting the iron and coal pits of the Dalmellington Iron Company with its own ironworks, which opened in 1849.
