Aviva plc is a British multinational insurance company headquartered in London, one of the largest insurers in the United Kingdom. It was formed in 2000 through the merger of CGU plc and Norwich Union, two long-established British insurance groups, and the combined company adopted the Aviva name in 2002 to unify its various regional brands under a single global identity. Aviva provides life insurance, general insurance, and long-term savings and investment products, with its core business concentrated in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Canada following a series of divestitures of its more far-flung international operations in the 2010s to focus the company on these core markets.
