Augustiner-Brau is a brewery in Munich, Germany, tracing its founding to 1328 when Augustinian monks, who had arrived in the city in 1294, began brewing beer at their monastery, making it Munich's oldest independent brewery. It produces lagers, wheat beers and seasonal styles under the Reinheitsgebot purity standard, reaching 1.63 million hectolitres of production in 2018. Since 1996 a 51 percent stake has been held by the charitable Edith Haberland Wagner Foundation, keeping Augustiner-Brau independent of international corporate ownership, the only one of Munich's six major breweries to remain so, while its beer has also gained popularity in cities such as Berlin.
