AT&T is an American multinational telecommunications company headquartered in Dallas, Texas, tracing its lineage to the original American Telephone and Telegraph Company, founded in 1885 as a long-distance subsidiary of American Bell Telephone. The modern corporation took shape as Southwestern Bell Corporation after the 1984 breakup of the Bell System telephone monopoly and later readopted the AT&T name; it is today one of the largest telecommunications providers in the world, offering wireless, broadband and business communication services.
