Ashanti Goldfields Corporation was a gold mining company based in Ghana, founded by Joseph Ellis and Joseph Biney, both from Cape Coast. Its Ashanti Mine at Obuasi, about 56 kilometers south of Kumasi, has been producing gold since 1897 and sits on one of the world's major gold deposits, ranked among the ten largest in the world. Around the turn of the twentieth century the company was among the most important gold mining companies listed on the London Stock Exchange.
