Anthropic is an American artificial intelligence company organized as a public benefit corporation and headquartered at 500 Howard Street in San Francisco, California. It was founded on January 26, 2021 by seven former OpenAI employees, including siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, who wanted to prioritize safety research in the development of artificial intelligence; Dario Amodei serves as chief executive and Daniela Amodei as president. The companys flagship product is Claude, a family of large language models offered in multiple tiers, accessed through a web chatbot, an application programming interface, and specialized tools including Claude Code for programming and Claude Cowork for general automation. Anthropic states that its purpose is to research the safety and reliability of AI systems, and it trains its models using a constitutional AI approach that applies principles drawn from documents such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
