Aluar Aluminio Argentino S.A.I.C. is Argentina's only aluminium smelter and one of the largest in South America, founded in 1970 and headquartered in Buenos Aires with its main smelting plant at Puerto Madryn, which runs four reduction lines. The company also produces aluminium alloys and intermediate aluminium products following a series of acquisitions, including Kicsa in 1983, Camea in 1993, C&K Aluminio in 1996 and Uboldi y Compania in 1998. Aluar trades on the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange under the ticker ALUA and is a component of the MERVAL index; control passed from its founding partners, including businessman Jose Ber Gelbard, to Dolores Quintanilla de Madanes after probate disputes in the late 1980s, and the company is currently chaired by Javier Santiago Madanes Quintanilla.
