Allstate Corporation is an American insurance company headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois, founded in 1931 as a subsidiary of the retailer Sears, Roebuck and Co. to sell automobile insurance by mail order. Allstate was gradually separated from Sears through a partial public offering in 1993 and a full spin-off in 1995, becoming an independent publicly traded company. It is one of the largest personal lines insurers in the United States, best known for automobile and homeowners insurance sold under its long-running "You're In Good Hands" advertising slogan.
