AirAsia Group is a Malaysian-founded low-cost airline group headquartered near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, originally established as a small government-linked carrier before being acquired for a nominal sum in 2001 by entrepreneur Tony Fernandes and business partners, who relaunched it as a low-fare carrier under the slogan "Now Everyone Can Fly." AirAsia grew rapidly across Southeast Asia, establishing separately branded and locally licensed affiliate carriers in Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Japan and elsewhere, and became the region's largest low-cost airline group by passengers carried. The group's parent corporate entity was rebranded Capital A in the 2020s to reflect a broader ambition spanning aviation, logistics and digital businesses beyond the core AirAsia airline brand.
