Air China is the flag carrier of the People's Republic of China, headquartered in Beijing and established in 1988 when the Civil Aviation Administration of China was restructured and its international and Beijing-area operations were spun off into separate airline companies, one of which became Air China. It is one of China's "Big Three" airlines alongside China Eastern and China Southern, majority owned by the state through China National Aviation Holding, and it joined the Star Alliance in 2007. Air China operates its principal hubs at Beijing Capital International Airport and the newer Beijing Daxing International Airport, and it is the designated carrier most closely associated with Chinese state and diplomatic air travel.
