Adidas AG is a German multinational sportswear and athletic footwear manufacturer headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany, one of the largest sportswear makers in the world. It was founded in 1949 by Adolf Dassler, known widely by the nickname Adi, from which the company takes its name, following a split with his brother Rudolf Dassler, who went on to found the rival sportswear company that became Puma in the same small Bavarian town. Adidas is known for its long running three-stripe logo, and the company manufactures footwear, apparel, and equipment across a wide range of sports, alongside a large casual and lifestyle apparel business built on its athletic heritage.
