The Abilene and Southern Railway was a railroad company founded on January 13, 1909 in Abilene, Texas by Morgan Jones, who envisioned building 150 miles of track. It operated about 97 miles of line connecting Abilene to Ballinger, Hamlin and Anson, running its first train within months of founding and reaching Ballinger by September 1909. The Texas and Pacific Railway acquired its stock in 1927, passenger service ended in 1941, and the company merged into the Missouri Pacific Railroad on November 1, 1978.
