An American businessman who worked as a milkshake mixer salesman before partnering with the McDonald brothers in 1955 to franchise their restaurant concept nationally. He founded McDonald's Corporation, bought out the brothers' interest in the business in 1961, and built McDonald's into the model franchised restaurant chain business literature most commonly cites.
