Li Ka-shing is a Hong Kong businessman who founded the plastics manufacturer Cheung Kong Industries in 1950 and built it, through decades of property, ports, retail and telecommunications acquisitions, into the conglomerate now organized as CK Hutchison Holdings and CK Asset Holdings. Born in mainland China, he fled to Hong Kong as a child during the Second Sino-Japanese War and left school early to support his family after his father's death, working in a plastics trading company before starting his own manufacturing business. For many years ranked among the wealthiest people in Asia, he is widely known in Hong Kong by the nickname Superman for his business success.
