An Australian-born psychologist who lectured in psychology and mental philosophy at the University of Queensland from 1911 to 1922 before becoming professor of industrial research at Harvard Business School from 1926 to 1947. He led the Hawthorne studies at Western Electric's plant near Chicago, whose findings on social relations, motivation and employee satisfaction founded the human relations movement in organizational management.
