Chris Argyris was an American business theorist, born 16 July 1923 in Newark, New Jersey, and died 16 November 2013. He was a professor at Yale School of Management and Harvard Business School and is known, alongside Richard Beckhard, Edgar Schein, and Warren Bennis, as a pioneer of organization development, with seminal work on learning organizations. He developed the concept of double loop learning, contrasted with single loop learning, and contributed the ladder of inference and intervention theory to the study of organizational learning.
